Designed for North America

Toyota is riding the new trend wave with its own version of the crossover, this time combining the performance of a sedan with the functionality of an SUV. Nothing new there but we expect the Toyota Venza to become a solid player in the segment.

"It will cater to buyers who are looking for the value and reliability of a Camry, the comfort and upscale refinement of an Avalon, and the utility and functionality of a Highlander SUV in one very stylish and sporty package." said Bob Carter, Toyota Division group vice president and general manager.

The Toyota Venza has been specifically designed for the North American market, and it will not leave North America either. Which is just as well really since it is nothing more than a station wagon with a higher ride height.

The front fascia looks good with its very distinctive grille and headlights, while the rear is adorned with an angled rear hatch, rear spoiler and wide wraparound tail lights. There are two engines available, a 2.7 liter four-cylinder (no specs available yet) and a 3.5 liter V6 with 268 hp and 246 lb. ft of torque. Both use a six-speed sequential shift automatic transmission in are available as either Front- or All-Wheel-Drive.

The car measures 189 inches in length, is 75 inches wide, 63.4 inches high, has a 109.3 inch wheelbase and a ground clearance of 8.1 inches. The V6 rides on 20 inch alloy wheels (245/50R20) while the 4-cylinder comes with either 19 or 20 inch alloys.

While its not an ugly vehicle, in fact, I think it looks better than the new Highlander, I'm confused as to where it slots in the Toyota lineup.

"It has the refinement and comfort of an Avalon, SUV capability of a Highlander and the value of a Camry" So is it to compete with a Rav4, the Highlander, the Sequoia? I dont get it, Toyota already has two crossover vehicles and two traditional SUV's, did they need another? Arent they poaching from their own stock on this? And obviously with the 3.5 V6 in play this vehicle is meant for the US market ....again, I just dont get it. Someone help me out?

Maybe they'll phase out the 4Runner for this? Maybe not. But the headlight sort of resembles that of Ford Edge.

"Venza will slot below the Highlander and above the RAV4. it likely will be aimed at such mid-priced domestic models as the Ford Edge and the Chevrolet Equinox." Sourced from Edmunds. It looks as big as Highlander though.

This concept is a joke...it is merely a toyota badged version of the Lexus RX350...nothing new here except the uglier grill.

umm It could be a prefiguration of the new RX platform though, just speculating here. Otherwise, nice looks for a Toyota but somehow boring/déjà vu overall.

Anyone care to remember a long-gone car trying to act like a truck... The U.S. market AMC Eagle. At least this attempt is better looking than the Eagle was in its day. If it were going to replace anything in the Toyota lineup I would have guessed the last generation Highlander but that already has a replacement. It's rather bland IMO. At first when I saw it I thought there must be room for a third row but when you get down to it all they have done is taken a Camry and make it taller...

Venza Dimensions: DIMENSIONS (inches) Overall Length: 189.0 Overall Width: 75.0 Overall Height: 63.4 Wheelbase: 109.3 Ground clearance: 8.1

Camry Dimensions: (from Toyota.com) Overall height, unloaded 57.9 Overall width 71.7 Overall length 189.2 Wheelbase 109.3 Ground clearance 5.5 Track (front/rear) 62.0/61.6 Coefficient of drag (Cd) 0.28

Toyota is smart, take the already well known camry and change it into Venza with more ground clearence and bigger tyre...
