Americans have long been clamoring for a taste of Ford’s current European lineup, and now their dream has officially become true. Unfortunately many of them weren’t dreaming about a Ford Transit Connect. The automaker announced that it would begin importing the van to the United States in 2009.

Ford will be marketing the Transit to small business owners, who would prefer a smaller and more economical alternative to the Ford E-series and Dodge Sprinter. Powered by 2.0L four cylinder engine the Transit delivers an estimated fuel economy of 19mpg city and 24mpg highway. Europe’s 2003 International van of the year award winner offers 143 cubic feet of cargo capacity while accommodating items up to 6.5ft in length and 4.7ft in width.

Why sometimes the badge in this car is on the hood (like on the first pic), and sometimes on the grille?

The pics with the badge on the grille belong to the facelifted version and that's what US market will get.

I don't know why they have included the previous version. Connect is produced at just one plant (Kocaeli-Turkey) and we wouldn't be able to see some offsprings from other mfg plants.

If they are going to import the Transit Connect to America, why can't the US have the new European Focus? It's been on sale here in Europe for 3 years yet the Americans get some hideous facelifted MK1.

We share your pain :)

Commercial vehicles business is an altogether different issue.

ford: why no turbodiesel?? helloooooo??

Patience! :)

It's on the pipeline too. Turbodiesels and all engines in general have to meet US06 or FTP 75 emissions cycles for US market. So, calibration and engine set-up requires time to change the vehicle from EU stage 4 & 5 to US-specs.
