Fresh off the success of its highly publicized SYNC system, Ford used the Chicago Auto Show to highlight their newest technological offerings. The Ford Work Solutions collection consists of four distinct options for the mobile professional, including the industry’s first in-dash computer.

Developed with Magneti Marelli and powered by Microsoft Auto, the computer allows high speed internet access via the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network. This allows customers to print invoices, check inventories and access documents stored on their home or office computer networks from the job site. If that isn’t impressive enough, the system also features navigation by Garmin. Fitted into the stock radio location, the computer has a 6.5” touch screen, two gigabytes of built in memory, an SD card slot, and a USB port. While a wireless keyboard, mouse and stylus are also provided.

Another one of Ford Work Solutions is Tool Link, which is a radio frequency tracking system that displays what tagged tools or equipment are stored in the vehicle. For small fleet owners, Crew Chief attempts to efficiently manage vehicles by using telematics in order to keep detailed maintenance records, dispatch workers to jobsites where they are needed most, and see real time vehicle locationsvia GPS. Meant to discourage would be thieves, Cable Lock is a security system that protects tools and equipment stored in the bed of pickups.

Ford Work Solutions will be offered on 2009 model F-150, F-Series Super Duty, E-Series vans, and the recently announced Transit Connect.

I think the last thing we need is a Ford SUV ramming into you because since they were busy typing away their text messages, or documents (it does say access home computers and multi-program compatible), and did not see you.

Awesome, I am sure we all can't wait for that.

This is great for those people who are constantly traveling on the road for work and their vehicle is their office. I know a lot of contractors, delivery servicers, and other people who are constantly offsite that could use this. I am also pretty sure that it is meant for while you are not driving on the road.
