After several photos of Volvo’s upcoming XC60 crossover were leaked, the company decided to reveal the new vehicle ahead of its official Geneva debut. Now the first real life photos of an undisguised XC60 have surfaced.

Drawing heavily from the XC60 concept that debuted at the 2007 North American International Auto Show, the production vehicle is destined to become Volvo’s entry level SUV. Expected to be on sale in Europe during the second half of 2008, the new crossover will face stiff competition from the BMW X3, Land Rover LR2 (Freelander), and the upcoming Audi Q5 and Mercedes GLK.

The 2009 Volvo XC60 will be offered with a turbocharged T6 engine which produces 281 horsepower or two turbodiesels rated at 163 and 185 horsepower. Production will begin shortly, with a target output of 50,000 vehicles per year.

This is by far one of the most beautiful Volvo's I've seen. It seems like Volvo has finally found its 'look'. Just one drawback; its too plain looking, just like a more curvier XC 90. I think they could've been more innovative with the design.

the concept looked better. i dunno why they always tone down the concept car for productions. looking good there, however i dont like the curved shoulder line (door body / window).

I liked it at first, and now i really like it now, black makes EVERYTHING look better, i dont know why auto makers just dont prmire their cars in black, red and silver

Black often looks elegant and sexy but on the other hand it swallows away part of the sculptural design when compared to lighter hues, and if the car lacks chromed windows contour it looks like some amorphous mass, plus up to 50% more heat in summer...

Not bad but déjà-vu, and the C pillar designs looks too much like Saab's 9-3 Combi. Those winter tires look unstoppable (iow snow fun).

I agree with MB.65, but personally, I would never associate terms 'innovative design' and 'Volvo'. Maybe it's just me.

I was excited when the new V70 came out but was very dissapointed that US models only gor 3.2 FWD (no turbo or AWD). When the concept XC60 came out, I was worried they would do the same, which wouldn't compete well here.

280 hp T6 AWD in a quicky sporty package. Now we're talking. Can't wait for it to arrive and test it out. If it drives as good as it looks, then I've found my next vehicle.

They tone down the concept because of the costs of production of the prototypes..... thats the only reason why.... they are not concerned about costs when doing the concepts.... But in the production ones they have to adjust the car to the "real life".
