First Official VW Scirocco Photos Leak

This car is big news, probably one of Geneva's most anticipated large volume production cars. By all means, it's got one heck of a reputation to live up to, if it is to step out of the shadow of its two memorable (Mk. 1 & Mk.2) 'Rocco fathers from the 1970s and 1980s.

These pictures, brought to you by autoscoops.eu, are seemingly the first official photos of the Volkswagen Scirocco, which will make its debut in Geneva as confirmed by is appearance today on the official premiere list of the Geneva Motor Show. The car (pictured) bears a strong resemblance to the aggressively styled VW Iroc concept, launched in August 2006, although the front end has been slightly toned down.

What do we know about the car so far, then? Since the launch of the teaser minisite at www.volkswagen.de just a few days ago, new information has appeared and these are the main details we expect to see:

  • VW Group's 2.0 TFSI four-cylinder turbocharged engine
  • A 1.4-litre TSI producing 122 bhp/ 91kW and a TDI choice
  • Seven-speed DSG gearbox
  • Proper sport seats (Audi S/RS style)

Stay tuned for more details!

Finally a VW with a nice front. I never got used to the chrome-grilles.

by janvandervoort | February 28, 2008 11:03 PM
wow looks brilliant!

by Monty | February 28, 2008 11:07 PM
Yeah, you're right. I love the Iroc front grille!

by alexander | February 28, 2008 11:07 PM
Copy of Volvo C30 inch by inch. Unimpresed!

by ben001 | February 28, 2008 11:12 PM
If those pictures are accurate the new scirocco will be the major dissapointment of car fans worldwide. What on earth dictated that tasteless toning down? Hope aftermarket firms can create a replica of the iroc front to put things back in perspective. It lacks design identity at the front, could be anything. Bravo VW!!!

by ismo | February 28, 2008 11:13 PM
What Iroc grill? No where near the concept!

by ben001 | February 28, 2008 11:13 PM
I mean the grille on the Iroc concept, I agree it's too toned down in these pictures.

by alexander | February 28, 2008 11:36 PM
STUPID .........its a shame ......The previous was a such a hit !!!!!!

by lucasjmkbmw | February 28, 2008 11:18 PM
why? that brushed chrome grill made the iroc look mean, the one on the scirocco is just not distinctive and bland. but on the plus side at least vw's design direction is moving away from just looking like a down market audi.

by worldcarfan87 | February 29, 2008 12:02 AM
it looks like a Seat. the rear quarter windows are too small.

by unknown | February 29, 2008 12:06 AM
Waaaow ! Refreshing, sexy and interesting: I love it. I wonder which intermediate engine VW will offer... Maybe the 1.4 TSI in 150hp version, like on the Tiguan. I've got good memories of my Corrado from the nineties, and this looks like a great sequel. Let's just hope the driving will be as interesting as the looks !

by dieter | February 29, 2008 12:22 AM
Wow I'm very impressed. It has a gorgeous front end and window lines. This is a treat to modifiers the world over.

by 911fnatic | February 29, 2008 1:15 AM
the car is awesome!i love the mirrors!!!!

by jntaras | February 29, 2008 1:16 AM
...and i think that the grill will be at the scirocco gti version...

by jntaras | February 29, 2008 1:34 AM
What a shame, VW Finally had done an aggressive design but at the end... So much expected for so little...

by Paulds | February 29, 2008 2:00 AM
I am not a VW fan, but this car, reminds me of a late model, honda civic hatchback, jast saying.

by benzboy | February 29, 2008 2:01 AM
Looks nice, but if I took the VW badge off, would you know its a VW?

by kevoluetion | February 29, 2008 3:14 AM
I kind of give this front design a thumbs up as it is quite refreshing to see a new design on the VW front from the usual suspect Audi grill. The car does look a bit like the Vovlo C30 and those lights remind me of Zoom zoom zoom Mazda 3. I think it will outsale the Golfs maybe also the A3. It's different.

by wisp | February 29, 2008 7:21 AM
After all those years VW is finally getting a sporty touch to its portfolio. Passat CC, Scirocco, Eos are somewhat different cars than their mainstream cousins, Golf and Passat. I'm not using VW products but I like'em!

by catch22 | February 29, 2008 8:35 AM
Does that black intercooler vent which also houses the fog light remind anyone else of the new Subaru WRX's?

by 911fnatic | February 29, 2008 10:16 AM
all that hype and they churn out this? bigger let down than the Twingo- Yawn...

by joelynn | February 29, 2008 10:55 AM
not wild about it. It just doesn't look quite right...

by PagodaWarrior | February 29, 2008 11:12 AM
looks great...love the front end, better than the chrome grilled concept

by phobos | February 29, 2008 11:24 AM
Well FOVOS (PHOBOS???) would you dare go as far as sign under the dotted line and let VW sell you that car or would that be scary enough even 4 u?

by ismo | February 29, 2008 12:31 PM
interesting design, i wasn't expecting this kind of look...

by afterace2 | February 29, 2008 12:59 PM
What should this be? This is a little bit better styled 3-door Golf....but not a Coupe... I think the real Scirocco-Fans all over the world will not see this car as a real Scirocco....

So the Corrado is the last real Coupe of VW...

by Bartinho | February 29, 2008 1:37 PM
as i said the design is what I was not expecting, but I agree with You totally, it is far from calling it a coupe...it rather looks like a more upmarket golf, a competition for a3 or c30 maybe, just another hatchback. The recently showed mitsu evox hatch looks more like a coupe despite it has 5 doors.

by afterace2 | February 29, 2008 2:21 PM
looks gorgeous! never liked the front of the iroc-concept.

by summer21 | February 29, 2008 3:23 PM
Rofl..they just made It.An astonishing looking concept turned into crap.

by Bernardo | February 29, 2008 4:42 PM
Look, Honey, VW let Volvo redesign the Rabbit/Golf...and they are calling it the replacement for the Scirocco? Give me a break! It's a nice updated design but it's just another hatchback....isn't that why they have the GTI and R32??? And as with the rest of their products, VW will overprice it and call it "upscale".

by kobear66 | February 29, 2008 4:46 PM
Yeah, so summing up this is basically a slightly sleeker Golf VI, and the VW logo on the hood might be the new signature for the next decade. Looks fine but could do better I guess. PS: And f*ck the synthetic clouds in the background, VW.

by ck314 | February 29, 2008 5:50 PM
Agree... not a Coupe, just another hatchback trying to sell it more expensive than Golf... so, Which is the case to have this? ... I prefer my R32

by Paulds | February 29, 2008 6:09 PM
I've never owned a scirocco and I've been following VW's design trend for quite some time and I must say... This has been like a serious kick in the teeth, straight out of left field. I'm not too fond of this model, not at all. They should have at least left the exterior untouched from concept stage. If they ever do decide to resurect the corrado, I hope they think long and hard, very long and hard, before putting it into production.

by tootall | February 29, 2008 6:14 PM
...this car is sad. Not a coupe. Not a successor to the Corrado. Another Golf clone with a higher price & slightly different sheet metal...what is VW thinking?

by Benzian | February 29, 2008 6:43 PM
This is a Golf VI. Smart move.

by alessandro | February 29, 2008 7:44 PM
uh - oh , not quite so. is this VWs idea of mimicking this year's Honda CR-V nasal section or is it trying to audition for the lead part in Jaws 2008 ?

by THERENAISSANCEMAN | February 29, 2008 8:10 PM
Smart move??? R U kidding?? I hope this is not a Golf VI, please!

by Paulds | February 29, 2008 8:38 PM
Please look at spy photos of Golf VI and... next generation of Renault Megane. There an issue to think about.

by alessandro | February 29, 2008 10:33 PM
One thing... More and more new cars are presented in pristine white these days. When will we see white in pearl/metallic version?

by janvandervoort | February 29, 2008 10:35 PM
a mix of volvo C30 and a Peugot to me.. Boring compared to the original. not a coupe at all, just another hatch. soon it will have 5 doors!

by coopergt | February 29, 2008 11:23 PM
GUYS!correct me if i am wrong.do you see any wiper blades?that mekes me think it is not production version...i don't know.tell me your opinion.

by jntaras | February 29, 2008 11:42 PM
good eye, who knows? they could be hidden under the hood.

by radmeister | March 1, 2008 12:22 AM
...or within the A pillars like Seat.

by ck314 | March 1, 2008 5:47 PM
and at the back of the car?where is it?

by jntaras | March 1, 2008 12:36 AM
I can clearly see one at the back... Press the Super Size button to check it

by rublazar | March 1, 2008 10:32 AM
Add 80% Opel Astra with 19% Audi A3, alongwith with a sprinkling of VW (the badge coming in at 1%) and you have this! I like it though... when I dislike the Astra's rear end immensely. Shame it's the 2.0T FSI engine, as I have a GTI MK5 and I'd like something different next time round. But I suppose it's such a good little engine, it's being exploited across so many models in VW and Audi's range.

by fusion01 | March 1, 2008 9:07 AM
oh guys come on. "a shame" "copying" etc. you are very personal when you want to give constructive critics. I like the new scirocco. and I think VW found a good way to come down to there old rules conjunced with modern and emotional acpects. Hope to found this in quality and prices too. Please be a "Volkssportler" like the original one

by xlumino | March 1, 2008 4:05 PM
the interior is perfect also the exterior from all the angles!i love the panorama roof!

by jntaras | March 1, 2008 4:26 PM
So many ppl claiming it's not a coupé, well, I say let's wait til they release the Golf VI, but I still think this car has a modified, lowered roof and more inclined windshield, and if that's the case then it deserves the "coupé" name.

by ck314 | March 1, 2008 5:54 PM
(the rear)looks like a fiat in my opinion

by fr3dy | March 1, 2008 6:45 PM
Now, how about the reliability factor, now that Volkswagen has finally decided to make a decent looking auto (who cares if they are "borrowing", bloody hell some of you blokes).

I wonder if they are going to redesign the Jetta line, now that the Passats have truly been redesigned.
