Maybach’s Landaulet is the latest addition to the Maybach family. It has just been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. What makes this car special, different from the 4-door 5.7m saloon on which it is based? Need to ask? Can you not see the sky from over there? Well Maybach Landaulet is the ultimate sky-scraper from Maybach, a long luxury saloon with roots firmly on the money.

So, is Maybach going soft on us? In a manner of speaking, yes. The folding top is soft, made of cloth for that traditional convertible look. Not so soft is the AMG co-designed V12 which uprates to 612 bhp/ 456kW with its two turbos. How much, you ask? Looking up into the open skies ain’t as cheap as it used to be sailor. As the old saying goes, if you have to ask, you can’t afford it! Inside the show halls of Geneva at least, passengers of Landaulet are treated to bright lights up above, which is more attainable than the sky.

too late , Maybach . you should have built this one during Liberace's lifetime , chuckle ! talk about chauffeuring around a pair of very pampered asses with their heads swimming in imperialist Victorian-era resplendence through all 12 cylinders/612 bhp of it , or rather . . . your certified pimp on the prowl around his trick-territory.

Prestige auto manufacturers are appealing less to rich westerners and more to oil-rich middle easterners. Though Maybach is less guilty of this than Rolls Royce, I think it's about time we come up with an appropriate pseudonym for these ostentatious Saudi-destined automobiles. I suggest the following: automoBILEs; OPEC mopeds; and (my personal favourite) Gaudy Saudis.

Bremen , there's really nothing worth considering substantial with regard to these glorified Gas Pump Attendants . their Gaudy-ness/Shallow-ness is best exemplified with their "showcase sandbox playground" - Dubai , that is , where everything is so cardboard-like , not much different from their social values. Verdano is a premium example of this species.

and you, sir, need to be encased in glass to be publicly displayed at the Museum of Great Pretending Winners . I understand at how you love your work as a hired driver of these open top white hearses .

You're completely missing my point, Verdano. This Landaulet, the Drophead Coupe, and a slurry of aftermarket versions of other prestigious automobiles are being violated to appeal to middle eastern taste; that is, gaudy trim, vulgar aesthetic modifications -- a shameless display of wealth. I'm not saying westerners aren't guilty of such a crime, only that, with the emergence of these especially ostentatious cars, we've got to unify on a pseudonym for them. I'm growing more partial to OPEC Mopeds (given the negative connotations of Gaudy Saudis).

Public transport is an intelligent choice actually. You should try it while there's still a planet that supports life.

EVERYONE missed the point of this car. Maybach, is LUXURY theres no other word. Maybach is the definition of luxury as far as the car people are concerned. This steps up the level of luxury to those who can afford such vehicles. Out dated, maybe, serving its purpose... DEFINATELY!!! Purpose of serving the ultra rich elite class with an extra rush of fresh air. Thats all... to me, its not so much the price, but its artistic purpose.
