Phantom Coupe Sold out with 200 Orders - Mostly New Clients

All 200 examples of the drop-dead beautiful Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe are now booked. Yours, if ordered today, will only be delivered to you in the spring of 2009. RR Chairman and CEO, former BMW South Africa CEO Ian Robertson, says two out of three sales of the Phantom Coupe are by people who don’t currently own a Rolls. “It means we’re beginning to appeal to a broader audience,” he said. Dare we say even a younger, less high-nosed audience? It is only a matter of time before we see it on MTV Cribs with fat 22-inch chrome rims.

Rolls Royce has been on a serious comeback trail since the Phantom came into power. Last year they saw over 1,000 units shipped for the first time, signaling the proper return of the RR brand to the fore for the first time since the Germans took over.

Under no illusions as to the whereabouts of the market for the Phantom Coupe, Robertson said the car is a sportier Rolls Royce, but it is still very clearly not a sports car. But is it a Bentley GT beater?

Purring under the long bonnet is the traditional 6.75-litre RR V12 that produces 453 hp/ 337kW and 720Nm of torque. Phantom Coupe is thus able to move from 0 – 100km/h in 5.6 seconds, topping off at 250km/h.

they usually just lower it, change the paint (or order the paint they like aka black or white), annnd change the rims... that's all they do, which is ENOUGH! this was MADE to compete with the continental GT, which rappers buy and put kick ass rims on it lol show me a "distasteful mod, rim and paint" job on a rappers ride... please link me

Actual Continental GT has nothing to do with the Phantom, be it size, technical specs, power delivery, price and... status.

haha ok... then why is the "continental GT" mentioned in another article about this car on WCF?? "Until recently the world’s elite only had one choice when it came to ultra-luxury coupes, the Bentley Continental GT. Rolls-Royce is planning to change that with the introduction of their Phantom Coupe at the Geneva Auto Show." i quote... aka this was made to compete (give another choice to buyer) with the continental GT. they wouldn't just mention the continental GT in that other article if it wasn't related to that car. so i'm PRETTY sure it does have something to do with the continental GT. i do agree however, that this car has more style, class and history, but the continental GT is more sporty, yet having a very good presence in a crowd.... both cars are very similar yet different.

Carcrazy, this has NOTHING to do with the Continental GT, the Mulliner Continental fully loaded is 213,000$. This is most likely more than 2x that price. The cont GT doesn't even have the same styling in the interior. This is in DIRECT competition with the Bentley Brooklands. Size, price, interior styling, even the squared off body.

Carcrazy1234, you sound naive, you must love rap as well. Come to LA and you'll see what I mean. Or come out to one of the dubs car show. It's not limited to Rolls or Bentley. MB's are the prime suspect.

I don't think it was made to compete per se with the Continental GT. I think Rolls Royce saw the opportunity to fill a niche market. The Conti is "ultra-luxury", but not on par with Rolls Royce, due to the large price gap (at least 125,000 USD). I would say that this coupe is a sort of one up to the Conti: more luxury, more class and more exclusivity (which is apparently one of Rolls Royce's selling points).

This car is more on the level of the Bentley Azure and Brooklands, definitely not the GT.

yeah, is that ceiling optional- It's kind of pretty, but I think the novelty would soon where off and it seems out of place on such a masculine car- maybe in a Maybach...

Yeah it's optional, and I guess it will just light up when you enter the car, most of the time in company of a gorgeous lady (this is no 911 GT3), and you can turn it off anyway. It's simply great.

Seems like the germans are doing for the british great things, what can i say they have that midas touch, Bentley, Rolls, Bugatti, Lamborghini all of them doing better than they ever have. What they do is let passion sore and have deep pockets, whatever is in the dreams of the designers is backed up by german R&D and engineering and this is what comes out, a true success story. If TATA was smart they would follow the same road with LR and Jag, only difference is they don't have the technology that the germans have to back up the creative designs that will be put out by the brits.

They are keeping their most prestigious brands at the top and returning them back to their iconic state they used to have i would say up until the 70s. Lets face it Bentley and RR were going to be bought out regardless, who else would have kept the brand the same way never mind improve on it? Ford? GM? Some firm with rich investors? They did something for the brits no one else could do, they revived their 2 most iconic brands. No reason to be bitter about it, they have given many jobs to british people and kept production in england, and nobody thinks of RR or Bentley as a german brand so where is the harm? Even Mclaren they were just sitting there about to close down until Mercedes came along and gave them something to work on. The germans brought a dying old fashioned and technologically left behind about 2 decades british car industry back to life. What about the mini? How many jobs did that create? Who else could bring back the mini and make it an icon again after 30 years?

What did ford do for LR and Jag? or the chinese for MG and Rover? Nothing that even rivals what VW,BMW, Mercedes did for Bentley, Rolls Royce, Mini, Mclaren. They were all dead and now they are internationally known and respected. Imagine if Porsche had taken over Aston Martin the kind of cars we would be seeing, no longer fat, or suffering from a lazy transmission that can't keep up with the engine, and perhaps even AWD. I'm gonna say it again, when it comes to taking over brands and bringing them back to life the germans have the midas touch. Of course with the exception of the Chrysler incident which really gave them nothing to work with, when you have to build a cheap car with a brand that is known for being the worst not even god could do anything.

Well, I was very disappointed when BMW dumped Rover-MG. They were in the correct direction (BMW engineered 75 was such an excellent car except for bland engines), yet it's true they had been fooled by the previous admin about hidden losses and such...
