The Mazda2 five-door was launched in UK in September last year with almost 7,000 units being taken up by customers so far, contributing to increased market share for Mazda in the small car segment. Now comes the launch of the three-door version with an on-the-road price of GBP 7,999 making it one of the lowest priced cars in its segment and is well expected to help further increase Mazda2's market share.

“Our original small car segment sales target for 2008 was an ambitious, but realistic 12,000 units – tripling our sales in this sector. Now, we are confident of achieving 15,000 sales as the three-door model with its keen pricing, £500 lower model-for-model, boosts the Zoom Zoom appeal of Mazda2 to a wider audience,” comments Mark Cameron, Mazda UK marketing director.

The new Mazda2 is 100kg lighter than its predecessor delivering a higher performance drive and better fuel economy, breaking an industry norm which usually sees new generation small cars slightly larger. Power ranges from the 75hp 1.3-litre engine up to the range topping 103hp 1.5-litre engine, a 68hp 1.4-litre diesel option is also available.
