Tata Nano Video First Time Seen in Motion

As the world's cheapest car, the Tata Nano, has the ability to really upset the economic balance of emerging markets. Therefore, Tata kept the development of the Nano extremely quiet with no information leaking until the car's official debut at the Delhi Autoexpo earlier this year. Even since, the Nano has never been photographed testing, until now. An observant Indian man who thankfully had a video camera, caught a base model Nano strolling down the famous Pune-Mumbai express way performing a test run.

Currently, land disputes for the originally proposed plant location threatened to delay the market launch, but Tata quickly assembled a backup location. Perhaps a blessing in disguise, Tata has begun to use the backup facility to produce a small batch of test vehicles in order to evaluate the efficiency of the production line, and therefore correct any problems prior to full mass production which begins in September.

June 6, 2008 9:28:24 PM

wow i thought it would look alot more skinnier! in photos it looked soo slim! ... but it looks wide enough to handle decently without tipping over! either way its gonna be a HUGE hit in city, highways you dont need to go above 100km/h anyways. Besides have u seen the mpg on it :P ... as long as they make reliable and cheap it will disappear faster than a fat kid on cake.

masteraal
June 7, 2008 7:57:46 AM

June 7, 2008 1:32:51 AM

wow... for 2500 dollars that an amazing achievement (i mean u can take out everything in another car including ac and vents and plastics and sh*t, but it still wouldn't get close to the 2500 dollar price). bang for buck anyone :P haha

cemi
June 7, 2008 6:19:44 PM

What about safety regulations? What about sound insulation? What about recyclable materials? Quality and life of the engine?

wolff
June 7, 2008 9:57:19 PM

which other car gives u all that at $2500?? :O its anyday better than the 2 wheelers though.. n thats exactly what they r targetting..

cemi
June 8, 2008 1:00:36 PM

Wolff I am sorry, if I had only 2500 to buy a car, I would rather put that money somwhere else, perhaps invest it. That would be a better use of that moeny.

cemi
June 7, 2008 4:50:01 PM

I would rather walk; get all soaked in the rain, frozen in the snow and melted in the heat than drive this piece of crap! Its ugly, undoubtedly, unsafe and a complete embarrassment. Yes it will work in poor masses of India, but that is where it will stay.

GranTurismo
June 7, 2008 5:43:24 PM

This car is meant for emerging markets. And if you're so rich , why don't you f**k off in your Rolls-Royce.

cemi
June 7, 2008 6:21:20 PM

hahahaha! has GranTurismo already ordered one? Trust me on this man, buy a vespa or something, you will be better off.

wolff
June 7, 2008 9:58:27 PM

cemi.. remember? a lot of Auto giants had an ugly n humble beginning!!

cemi
June 8, 2008 12:59:01 PM

Yes a lot of automobile giants had ungly beginnings, That doesn't make this one any more attractive. Its still an ugly car and I would rather walk.

wolff
June 10, 2008 10:32:42 PM

well, the thing here is that if u had only $2500 to put into a car, then? its not meant for the rich!! it is not!!

June 8, 2008 11:06:44 AM

Who the heck is this wolff plonker , always banging on about how good tata is , i should think that after alot of your comments your about 14 years old , Agreed TATA is a big company , but if you want a car that has wafer thin metal and runs on tea leaves and a N-CAP RATING OF -10 then we wouldnt go wrong with a NANA oops NANO , if it came to the Uk then you would be a laughing stock , there is potholes big enough to swallow lorries there.

As for the price, my KONA mountain bike was $2600 and will outlast a car with wheel barrow wheels and .. No soul!!

Big car companies Had ugly beginings?? what are you on about Just look at how sexy the early Audis , Mercs and bmws even Ford were , hand made with passion , But best of all the VW beetle still going strong after a world war!

If this NANA oops NANO can last that long i will give you a pat on the back ..

Thankyou

Well said spyshot-73, well said.

It's not coming to the U.K. Tata sells Jaguar and Land Rover there!!!

michelin901
June 9, 2008 6:07:41 AM

cmon guys give the thing a chance. if the big auto giants were to make a 2.5k car there would most ppbly b jus a chassis with wheels n d rest optionial. this car is a boon to a lotta middle class families in india who drive altogether on scooters without helmets n so on. this has got to be better than tat.

JTZ
June 9, 2008 8:04:17 AM

Wow you haters, look at what the damn car is meant for before you judge it! OBVIOUSLY ITS NOT MEANT TO COMPETE AGAINST ANY EUROPEAN CAR!!!

Its simply meant to be a safer alternative to a scooter or 200cc bike... Its for people who want a car but cannot afford it hence have to settle for a bike.. that is their target audience...

If one day tata decides to make a small cheap car for britain, it will obviously be alot different... so please stop with the comparisons... its god damn city car!

cemi
June 9, 2008 11:20:26 AM

I really don't understand GranTurismo. I don't care if this car is needed in India or not or whether its good and bad for the environment. The facts are plain. Its a hideous car, embarrassing to look at, and like I said before I would rather put my money somewhere else. Whats with the british leyland discussion. And please, you didn't really compliment yourself by saying you drive a chevy. Goodness that is not that far above the nano on my list.

GranTurismo
June 9, 2008 11:40:16 AM

I don't care what a brit has to say about a car sold only in India. And the Americans are much better car manufacturers than you guys will ever be.

GranTurismo
June 9, 2008 11:44:59 AM

EVER!!!!!

GranTurismo
June 9, 2008 6:10:52 AM

Alright!!! The nano may be a laughing stock!!! But there are bigger thing to laugh about, like......... ASton Martin owned by Kuwaitis, MG Rover owned by the Chinese etc.

Besides,TATA NANO WILL BE SAFER AND OF BETTER QUALITY THAN THE BEST CARS MADE BY "BRITISH LEYLAND"!!!!!

As you know, leyland is without argument the worst car builder that ever existed in the UNIVERSE.

So. laugh about that, brit!!!

GranTurismo
June 9, 2008 10:56:59 AM

And for a good reason too!!!

GranTurismo
June 9, 2008 6:13:04 AM

Oh!!! By the way Cemi. I own a Chevy ( not the matiz!!)

GranTurismo
June 9, 2008 6:38:33 AM

I just wanted to remind you that Bentley is owned by your best friends, the Germans !!!!

You can hoot with laughter about that!!!

Some of the world's most ancient universities were in India. If you don't like the Tata Nano, then why do you waste your time irritating others, visiting this page and typing such biased comments?! Sure the Tata might not be as safe as a Mercedes, but it will be safer than the safest 2 wheeler. It was designed for people who want a car, but can't afford one. Sure, a bike makes more sense. But a family of four needs a car. Indians are just as much as human as you are. There's no doubt that this car makes more sense than any bike(for a family).

The tata nano is for people on two wheelers so they can get the taste of a car. - true Jaguar and range rover owned by tata, a great acheivment- true THE TATA NANO IS AN EXTREMELY UGLY UNSAFE, UNINSPIRING, BORING, EMBARASSING CAR?- TRUE
