Nissan GT-R V-Spec to be Unveiled in Paris?

On sale before end of year

Following the all-conquering performance of the Nissan GT-R it comes as little surprise the world is eager to see what the high(er)-performance V-spec model will be able to do and judging by the latest details that have recently surfaced we won't have long to wait. According to print magazine Car & Driver a preliminary version of the GT-R V-Spec (or Spec-V) will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September with sales to commence as soon as December for the Japanese market, we will probably have to wait until close to 2010 before it hits the European and North American markets.

The performance figures for the new model have been kept under wraps so far leaving all of us in the media having to rely on pure speculation. Initially a figure of 550hp has been suggested, although an unverified leaked brochure surfaced revealing it could be 512bhp and the carbon-fibre body will contribute to a 100kg reduced dry weight.

Further info to surface also reveals the GT-R is actually a loss maker for the Japanese manufacturer and not until they roll out more cars on the same platform (such as an Infiniti version) will the automaker see the balance sheet return to the black.

They did not say it like that!!! they said "Its not a money-maker".. That doesnt mean that they are losing, maybe just break even!! Moreover, chief engineer earlier said "we made a car than can be driven by any one, while taking in mind the we're not losing while making it as well!!"

GT-R is sold out before its even been made. Their car are sold out for a year and has an endless waiting line how could they not be making profit??? maybe now they are not making but after their cars get lauched to Us and europe they make huge profit

Its not the sales issue, its the low price issue.

Given the technology involved with the GT-R...you can bet Nissan isnt making alot of profit given the GT-R only costs 80K...cars with similar tech(997T tho i love it) cost twice almost twice as much.

Not sold out but on order. U can't make money on something u haven' t sell yet. I new this looked to good to be true. Do not forget the saying " you get what you paid for". If they do not make money then they should know technology is not cheap. How can you make a car that bests out almost everything but yet you can buy three of them for the something similar . If it's going to take 2 years to release V spec with carbonfiber body I bet buy then Porsche will have an answer to it or maybe they do not feel they need to be worried. If Porsche makes a carbonfiber body just like nissan will then nissan does not stand chance. If it does not sell in Jappan then I think they know something we do not.

My friend, try to read the article, to know how things are working in this world!! Dont just act as an economist while you know nothing.. they said its not a money maker; this means that they will sell it for low price, and they are right. Secondly, they said they make profit using other cars that share its platform; this means that they "will" make profits, but in a different way.. Thirdly and the most important, dont forget that many manufacturers "intentionally" increase thier prices, so that thier cars remain exclusive, and they make huge profit as well.

I can think of the reasons why this car is cheap. First it's not a fuel efficient for everyday driving. Second, this car has minimal luxuary to the interior design and third it is Japanese business tradition to lower the price to kill the market competitors and make profit in other products. This GT-R development has taken so long time for research & development, roadtests and advertising. Nissan wanted to beat all of supercars in the same league and that's what it's all about.

I see a lot of geniuses acting like they know something about cars!! You call the GT-R cheap?!?! Thats really nice.. As far as I remember, people call this a supercar!! so luxury is not a requirment at all. Secondly, based on what have you judged the car by saying its not fuel efficient??? Do you want it to have the same fuel consumption as your corvette?! The car has more than 800 pounds to carry, and yet, it not a gas guzzlers! Also dont forget that your American companies got thier butts "destroyed" by Japanese makers for two main reasons, the "perfect" building quality, which you said cheap, and the ability to save fuel. Please, dont write things about cars like you understand unless you're capable of knowing what you say!!

Its not a Luxury car nor is the GT-R an Infinity...its badged as a Nissan. It offers nice enough interior, very nice IMO, but nothing more. It doesnt have to compete as well with the BMW M3s interior and all that because for a cheaper price...the M3 gets HOLY roasted even tho the M3 is a great car. The GT-R isnt CHEAP, but yes it is cheaper than its competition.

Well, perhaps I could've said that it was "cheaper to the competitors" in terms of cost performance figure.

And what I meant by low fuel efficiency is a bit different here. I indeed understand that 20mpg would be impressive for you but at the same time you probably notice that this car can be used as everyday car like other civilised vehicle. Besides recent porsche has even expanded their 911's mpg to something like 25. The GT-R has a big 1st gear ratio that tends to cost smoothness of driving and to end up in lower oil efficiency in city driving. IMO this car could have been pricier than this though that would've only raised owner's dissatisfaction about GT-R's interior to the price.

NitrousOxide why don't you read carefully what I wrote. I never said the car is cheap. I said that technology is not cheap and they should have price it a bit higher couse they have a good reason since it is a great car. Just because I make a negative comment I am not putting it down. If you know so much about cars then maybe you should be working for nissan. Stop making silly impressions that you know them all.

Car & Driver did a test with the GT-R, M3, and Porsche 911 Turbo. They said the better car is the M3 even though the GT-R is faster that's not all that counts, the Porsche beat the GT-R because it is still one of the most pure driving experiences and on top of that it has a superior interior and build quality. All 3 amazing cars but i would have to agree with the car & driver editors the M3 and Porsche are still a better car when you look at all the aspects of picking a car to buy. The one thing that really worried me was the difference in 0-60 times they got between 3 different GT-Rs, ranged from 3.6-3.3sec which makes me curious to see some dynos of a few GT-Rs i have a feeling something is fishy.

whit this car you DONT pay for the logo you pay for speed and real engeniring work...fast cars are not made to be nice, for me they must terrify when you accelerate them and go as hell always and the reference for this its still the McLaren F1 LM

The gtrs have always been made Function over form, guess well just have to wait and see what the v-spec is capable of. also remember that Nissan has altered the us and euro version so the performance may differ from the japanese version

i dont know you guys are smart or not..but if you think porsche, ferrari, lambo should be expensive , you are just a victim of symbolism marketing strategy, they are expensive because they have minimum ability to be mass produced by handmade, they tend to set those cars prices on the top of other products because its traditional, japanese could do that better but their marketing plan and traditional are not being like german, italian concepts, they produce cars like you produce donuts..and finally who makes top profit.?, look at toyota anual sale,..!!..so stop thinking GT-R is supercar but its cheap ,you should be happy when you can afford one.
