Mercedes Outlines its Roadmap for Sustainable Mobility

Mercedes wants to produce environmentally sustainable vehicles without sacrificing its characteristic premium brand features of safety, comfort and refined driving pleasure, and presents details for its “Road to the future” or roadmap for sustainable mobility.

With a growing world population, depleting natural resources, increased government legislation and increasing fuel costs, a major shift in consumer behavior is starting to take place. Therefore, Mercedes-Benz believes offering multiple tailored solutions as opposed to one single technology is the path.

Mercedes has identified three key areas such as:

  • Continued internal combustion engine development such as: gasoline direct injection, turbocharging, BlueTEC clean diesels and Diesotto as well as improving aerodynamics, lightweight design/materials and energy management (BlueEFFICIENCY)
  • Continued improvements to hybrid technology including start/stop function, Two-Mode hybrid with enhanced full electric drive capability
  • Zero-emissions fuel cells and battery-powered vehicles

Overall, Mercedes highlights how it is actively involved in all disciplines of sustainable mobility, and offers a tangible outlook of the future. Starting next year in the U.S. with the ML 450 BlueHYBRID and the S 400 BlueHYBRID, both boasting to be the most fuel efficiency vehicles in their classes, Mercedes will be the world’s first manufacturer to bring to market a passenger car with lithium-ion battery in the S 400 BlueHYBRID.

Yeah, a lot of people forget they developed the first automobile. And many other firsts after that. Everywhere the automobile has gone Mercedes has led.

It's not my style, I'm more into small compact sports cars, but for a luxury car I think it's original, even beautiful. I don't like the side view of the back end but other than that, I'd say this car was more of a work of art than a functional/working design. To some it may be a design way ahead of it's time, but I still like it.

I think it would look spectacular to see in real life, cant say it looks like anything else, you cant say you wouldn't look twice if you saw it driving past.

serraxtrem, exuse me...are you still asleep, because it sure looks it, Mercedes scared of three big letters B M W, really are you taking the mick out of yourself or BMW, your comment is by far the most funniest and sensless joke I have ever heard, I tell you one thing BMW are and always have been under the foot of Mercedes and always will be, you trying to compete a cr**** brand to the masters Mercedes-benz, and lets not even go into BMW's joke history, MY NAME SAYS IT ALL, AND LIVE WITH IT......

I'm coming old with my inclination to the side of Lancia Delta Integrale, mid-rear engined Renault Clio and V8 Ferraris but this is first big luxury car I would like.
