SPY VIDEO: Mercedes Set to Unveil Special Edition SLR Speedster
In 1955 Sir Stirling Moss drove the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR to Victory in the demanding Mille Miglia race, the starting time of 7:22am became synonymous with the model and more recently the legendary numbers were used for the special edition SLR 722 model. Now we can reveal to you a new SLR special edition speedster model is about to be revealed, sketches and spy shots from autoexpress reveal it will be a modern interpretation of the original 1955 SLR sportscar.
The Mercedes SLR 722 will be the base for the model which will be limited to a production run of 75 cars, the roof will be completely removed and will feature a small low rising windscreen. The roofless SLR will lose about 440punds off the SLR's kerb weight resulting in the fasteest top-speed of any SLR of 217mph and it can accelerate from 0-186mph in 26 seconds.
The model is unlikely to pass the strict safety guidelines for Europe or America due to the lack of a roof leading us to believe it will only be sold in the middle-east where the warmer climate will suit the speedster.
Sources state we could see the unveiling of the model as soon as tomorrow.
Yawn, its a merc, so it will be automatic, the original slr was the nicest looking thing merc is capable of, the speedster idea is just the german version of a retro muscle car. I expected more of MB then to release ideas about a speedster model a month after Audi. But back to the design. There isn't one, the audi speedster had revised body work, this is just a regular slr roadster with no windshield for weight savings...
might I add that the original slr wasn't even designed by merc.
Yes the original is so much sexier , im really bored of all these cars that look the same these days , design something new please.
this is fantastic video, it gives me a feeling that this car is very special. Maybe merc by itself published this?
I love the looks, it looks like that old school badboy racer. If only such beauty was legal in todays crash standards :(
Blimey though that spyshotter was brave getting that close , ive tried it a few times and bottled it.
They again just trying to keep up with BMW, BMW comes out with a speedster and it was only a matter of time that mercedes would do the same. And frankly speaking do see what the big deal is, these type of cars aren't exactly something to drool about. Hell, you can never drive one becuase the safety rules, so why even bother wasting funds in coming up with this car when they should rather put it to good use and come up with a new design for mercedes supercar. oh wait they probably waiting for BMW to release the new m1 before designing their "own".
Because the people who buy them will drive them on the street regardless what the government says. They have the funds to pay the fines and any impound fees.
no, no I didn't. All I heard was the wind and a very slight noise when they started it on the side of the road. Very MB like, remove all the aggression and passion from their cars, so that it won't upset the neighbors in your 60 plus community when you drive past in it.
Goodness Joe_, must you always hate? The first 16 sec were full of fly-bys. The supercharger and exhaust sound SO good. The production SLR has the same exhaust grumble, but the supercharger on here sounds like no other Ive ever heard!
lol thats just the wind blowing past the mic on the camera. hahaha
While some would be insulted, your humur amuses me Joe_. You just dont like MB products huh?
guess I am not old enough to appreciate their conservative styling/performance/interiors at the cost of their not so conservative price.
Xanavi, that is so true. Sadly realy we can only dream about owning a slr and then we have these fools that have the cash and total then the next day and laugh about it
I don't understand why Mercedes refuses to put a proper manual transmission into any of its performance cars.
This is a dream car.If i had the cash i'd put a deposit on it first thing in the morning.

Wow! This car is gorgeous; everything the SLR should have been.
