Nissan X-Trail FCV Sets Ring Record Without Even Trying

11 minutes, 58 seconds and zero emissions is the how Nissan describes their record setting run on the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. At first, this seems like an accomplishment, but when the obvious question emerges, “Who held the record previously?” - the answer is a bit embarrassing.

Taking first prize in a beauty contest with no other contestants is not the most noble of victories. In fact it's downright dubious, but in Nissan's case – they'll take it any which way they can.

Nonetheless, the challenge is set, and it's only a matter of time until the second fuel cell powered contender comes along and knocks the lonesome Nissan FCV off its self appointed perch.

Lol, 11 minutes is the record for a Zero emission car? C'mon man. Another reason why going green is boring.

*looks at Focus RS*

Not boring for the Telsa or Lightning GT though.

Let's race it with other contestants then scream "I WON!" I think I will go run around a running track with no one else, report my numbers, then proclaim myself as a winner and record holder. :)

Nice try Datsu...Nissan! Cheers!

considering Sabine made a lap below 10 minutes in a Transit commercial van, it's not a very good time, or is it?

If you think about it, this car does not run of any fossil fuel like petrol or diesel, so its a good time considering it runs on hydrogen

Sabine has been around the ring a gazillion times. she knows every single area like Google maps. the estimated time if an ordinary person took it would be about 11 minutes aswell. Coming to think about it, this is a fairly impressive time for a FCV. Still slow in general though.

Yes, and beaten by a Transit van...

The van was stripped and it took her like 3 tries and she admitted that it was almost about to tip over many times. Also isnt the van a V8 and being a van has a lot of torque? This car has seats and is awd and probably heavy. Also the car was tested on this track mainly to do heavy testing to check durability. The time is just so show they r the first to test on the Ring.
