Subaru's horizontally-opposed 2.0-liter four cylinder diesel engine is the first of its kind. First revealed in the Outback/Legacy range in Geneva earlier this year, Subaru is now debuting the engine in Paris this October in two of its other models, the Impreza 5-door hatchback and Forester SUV.

Both the Forester and Impreza Boxer Diesels feature new six-speed manual gearboxes while the engine receives a new closed-type diesel particulate filter.

Subaru states the Forester 2.0D boasts class-leading fuel economy and emissions with 44.8 mpg combined and 167 g/km.

The Forester 2.0D produces 147 PS and 258 lb ft torque and the Impreza 150 PS and 258 lb ft – both at 3,600 rpm and 1,800 rpm respectively.

The new Forester Boxer Diesel goes on sale in the UK in late September and the Impreza Boxer Diesel in January 2009.

258lbft at 1800 rpm would be pretty sweet, especially in Subaru's rock solid awd cars.

Subaru is not rock solid. Subarus always have lots of weakness. and there is no relly good model of subaru's except for impreza wrx sti. imo they are piece of sh.t!

you honestly believe that a company that has solely made awd cars for over a decade now has not yet figured out how to make a rock solid awd platform? Not only that but you also believe there impreza wrx is their most solid car. No, high performance and reliability usually do not go hand in hand if you were to ever buy any subaru, the last thing you would expect to break on it is it's drivetrain. Please don't provoke me to argue with you unless you feel like you have something intelligent to say.

heyy joe i actually agree with mechamynd, subaru's cars arent rock solid... here is a review i saw the other day: http://www.teknikensvarld.se/documents/peugeot/4007-freetrack-forester/index.xml it is in swedish so here i transalted it for you: This test is actually about three "losers". None of them are best in class, even if both the Peugeot 4007 and Seat Altea Freetrack are good cars. But there are better or as good at lower prices. One thing we can establish : All competing cars are better than the new Subaru Forester.

I personally have liked all Subarus since the Generation of Legacy 2 generations ago and the GC8 imprezas. The new ones are gorgeous, even lower 2.5Models look sweet. As for diesel this is AWESOME. good to see companies using new tech.

the new suby's are very dull and boring... almost all of them are. They used to be unique, and we're appreciating them now because of how dull and ugly they are now lol. sad really. tsktsk ohhh subaru just too plain now.
